26 Sep 2016 — Hernan Hourmilougue led every lap from first-place start to first-place finish and clinch the series championship in the Rockingham Skoda in Round 7 of the Skoda Octavia Challenge [SoAm] series.
Hourmilougue drove all of 13 laps total leading Simon Swarbrick after being engaged by him on the first lap. Hourmilougue fended off a prolonged attack by Swarbrick midway through, staying just car lengths ahead of him over a solid run of 11 laps. Hourmilougue controlled the race lead every lap from start to victory.
The series championship was clinched this final round by Hourmilougue with his winning run. Hourmilougue took the win in four of his six starts, leading 58 of 131 laps total.
One last pass on the final lap put Nuno Gaiteira in fourth place at the finish line.
Gaiteira ran the majority of 12 laps total pursuing Miguel Teixeira after targeting him on lap 9. Gaiteira launched an extended attack at Teixeira midway through, staying within a sector behind him and keeping pace over an unbroken run of 11 laps. Gaiteira passed Teixeira and into fourth place on his final lap.
Gaiteira finished the series fourth in the standings. Gaiteira made five starts and finished as high as second.
Simon Swarbrick took second place.
Skoda Octavia Challenge [SoAm] series finished its season after seven rounds spanning a little more than a month. A total of 33 drivers competed for points in the championship.
Hernan Hourmilougue won the championship, leading 58 laps and taking four victories in six races. Mark Carty and Porfirio Dias Santos finished within a race of the title. Nuno Gaiteira and Adolfo Onrubia finished out the Top 5.
Swarbrick drove nearly equal parts of 20 laps total leading Mark Carty after engaging and passing him on lap 9. Swarbrick got around Carty and into second place on lap 9, and defended it against pressure by Carty the remaining 12 laps to the finish.
Swarbrick finished the series 15th in the standings. He made one start and finished as high as second.
Mark Carty captured third place.
Carty spent nearly equal parts of 20 laps total leading Simon Swarbrick after being caught by him on the first lap. Carty fended off a prolonged challenge by Swarbrick in the beginning, staying just an apex ahead of him over an unbroken run of eight laps. Ultimately Carty lost the spot on lap 9 and settled into third the dozen laps running to the finish.
Carty finished the series second in the standings. Carty made five starts and led 15 of his 102 laps while finishing as high as second.
Porfirio Dias Santos took fifth place.
Dias Santos drove nearly equal parts of 20 laps total leading Nuno Gaiteira after being engaged by him on the first lap. Dias Santos fended off an extended challenge by Gaiteira in the beginning, staying just an apex ahead of him over a continuous run of nine laps. In the end Dias Santos lost the spot on lap 10 and settled into fifth the lap running to the finish.
Dias Santos finished the series third in the standings. Dias Santos made seven starts and finished as high as third.
