06 Sep 2016 — Hernan Hourmilougue held off Mark Carty at the finish line by the narrow margin of 0.394 seconds to take first place in the Nelson Ledges Skoda in Round 4 of the Skoda Octavia Challenge [SoAm] series.
Hourmilougue spent nearly equal parts of 22 laps total leading Mark Carty after engaging and passing him on lap 16, coming from as many as four spots back. Hourmilougue passed Carty and into first place on lap 16, and defended it against pressure by Carty the remaining nine laps to the pulse-pounding finish.
Hourmilougue moves up to third in the standings, 20 points behind Adolfo Onrubia. Hourmilougue has three starts and led nine of his 45 laps while taking the victory once.
Mark Carty led all drivers most for 15 of 24 laps but ultimately settled for second place.
Porfirio Dias Santos made his 60th start in the Skoda Octavia '08 and captured fourth place.
Carty ran nearly equal parts of 22 laps total leading Hernan Hourmilougue after being engaged by him on the third lap. Carty fended off an extended challenge by Hourmilougue in the early stages, staying just a car length ahead of him over an unbroken run of 13 laps. In the end Carty lost the spot on lap 16 and settled into second the nine laps running to the checkered flag, missing Hourmilougue ahead by just 0.394 seconds at the line.
Carty moves up to the lead of the standings, six points ahead of Adolfo Onrubia. Carty has four starts and led 15 of his 82 laps while finishing as high as second.
Dias Santos swapped leads multiple rounds with Bruno Chacon in a lengthy and determined battle for third starting midway through, running within a turn of each other over a stretch of 24 laps. Dias Santos drove nearly equal parts leading Chacon after being engaged by him on the first lap. Ultimately Dias Santos lost the spot on lap 23 and settled into fourth the couple laps running to the conclusion.
Dias Santos moves up to fourth in the standings, one point behind Hernan Hourmilougue. Dias Santos has four starts and finished as high as fourth.
In the 60 career runs taken by Dias Santos in the Skoda Octavia '08, he has led one laps in all and finished as high as second once.
Skoda Octavia Challenge [SoAm] series moves on to Round 5 in a week at a track to be named. The series has 28 drivers competing for points in the championship.
Mark Carty leads the championship in a tight campaign over Adolfo Onrubia, separated by just a few finishing positions. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for 28 drivers in the running with three races remaining.
Bruno Chacon took third place.
Chacon took the fight back and forth with Porfirio Dias Santos in a lengthy and determined fight for third from the middle stages, running within a turn of each other over a span of 24 laps. Chacon spent nearly equal parts leading Dias Santos after catching and passing him on lap 8. Chacon fended off a prolonged attack by Dias Santos in the middle stages, staying just a couple turns ahead of him over a solid run of seven laps. After losing the spot on lap 15, Chacon got around Dias Santos for the second time and into third place on lap 23, and controlled it the remaining lap to the checkered flag.
Chacon is 11th in the standings for the series. He has one start and finished as high as third.
