30 Aug 2016 — Mark Carty got past Hernan Hourmilougue on the final lap and held it by the narrow margin of 0.382 seconds at the finish line to take third place in the Mugello Skoda in Round 3 of the Skoda Octavia Challenge [SoAm] series.
Carty ran the majority of 14 laps total pursuing Hernan Hourmilougue after engaging him on the first lap. Carty launched an extended challenge at Hourmilougue in the beginning, staying within a scrape behind him and keeping pace over an unbroken run of 13 laps. Carty cleared Hourmilougue and into third place by the tight margin at the checkered flag.
Carty remains in second in the standings, increasing the lead over rival Ville Hartikainen to 12 points. Carty has three starts and finished as high as third.
Adolfo Onrubia led every lap from first-place start to first-place finish.
Antonio Tavares held off Nuno Gaiteira at the finish line by the tight margin of 0.328 seconds to take sixth place.
Onrubia drove all of 14 laps total leading Ville Hartikainen after being engaged by him on the first lap. Onrubia controlled the race lead every lap from start to victory.
Onrubia remains in the lead of the standings, increasing the lead over rival Mark Carty to 12 points. Onrubia has three starts and led 38 of his 58 laps while taking the win twice.
Tavares traded positions with Davide Caligiuri in a close fight for sixth from the early stages, running within a scuff of each other over a range of six laps and changing positions two times. Tavares spent the majority leading Caligiuri after being engaged by him on the first lap. After losing the spot on lap 2, Tavares passed Caligiuri and into sixth place on lap 3, and defended it against pressure by Caligiuri another four laps toward the exhilarating finish with Gaiteira.
Tavares is 14th in the standings for the series. He has one start and finished as high as sixth.
Skoda Octavia Challenge [SoAm] series moves on to Round 4 in a week at a circuit to be named. The series has 25 drivers competing for points in the championship.
Hernan Hourmilougue took fourth place.

Hourmilougue fended off a prolonged challenge by Carty in the beginning, staying just a scrape ahead of him over an unbroken run of 13 laps. Ultimately Hourmilougue lost the spot on lap 14 and settled into fourth the lap running to the conclusion, missing Carty ahead by just 0.382 seconds at the line.
Hourmilougue moves up to eighth in the standings, now tied in points with ninth's Ricardo Gomes. Hourmilougue has two starts and finished as high as fourth.
Ville Hartikainen took second place.
Nuno Gaiteira captured seventh place.
Hartikainen started the race in the second position and was caught by Mark Carty for second on the first lap. Hartikainen held second position every lap from the start to the checkered flag.
Hartikainen moves up to third in the standings, 12 points behind Mark Carty. Hartikainen has two starts and finished as high as second.
Gaiteira traded positions multiple rounds with Davide Caligiuri in a lengthy and unrelenting battle for seventh starting early on, running within a scrape of each other over a range of 14 laps. Gaiteira spent nearly equal parts leading Caligiuri after challenging and passing him on the third lap. After losing the spot on lap 5, Gaiteira cleared Caligiuri for the second time and into seventh place on lap 8, and defended it against pressure by Caligiuri the remaining seven laps to the checkered flag.
Gaiteira is 11th in the standings for the series. He has two starts and finished as high as seventh.
