15 Oct 2016 — Fahn Thomas led every lap from first-place start to first-place finish in the WEGTE class in the Indianapolis Road Course Multiclass in Round 5 of the World Endurance Championship series.

Thomas drove all of 58 laps total leading Barrett Erickson after being engaged by him on the first lap. Thomas controlled the race lead every lap from start to victory.

Thomas remains in the lead of the WEGTE class standings, increasing the lead over rival Barrett Erickson to 19 points. Thomas has five starts and led 152 of his 255 laps while taking the victory four times.

John Van Der Geest started on the pole and led every lap on the way to a commanding victory in the WEP1 class.

In the 10 career runs taken by Thomas in the Viper SRT GTS-R, he has led 223 laps in all and taken the win a half-dozen times.

Alex Freitas led all drivers in the WEP2 class most for 60 of 61 laps on a run for first place.

Driving the Porsche 919 Hybrid, Van Der Geest spent all of 55 laps total leading Tobias Mueller after being caught by him on the first lap. Van Der Geest controlled the race lead every lap from green flag to win.

Van Der Geest remains in the lead of the WEP1 class standings, increasing the lead over rival Ken Jagger to 10 points. Van Der Geest has four starts and led 169 of his 235 laps while taking the victory three times.

Freitas spent nearly all of 56 laps total leading Mike Erickson after catching and passing him on the second lap. Driving the Acura ARX 03, Freitas fended off a prolonged challenge by Erickson in the early stages, staying just a couple turns ahead of him over a solid run of 53 laps. After losing the spot on lap , Freitas cleared Erickson and into first place on lap 2, and controlled it the remaining 59 laps to the conclusion.

Freitas remains in second in the WEP2 class standings, cutting the gap to first's Mike Erickson to eight points. Freitas has four starts and led 127 of his 211 laps while taking the victory three times.

OCEANIKA MOTORSPORT World Endurance Championship series moves on to Round 6 in three weeks at Mid Ohio - No Chicane. The series has 44 drivers competing for points in the multiclass championships.

Mike Erickson led the WEP2 field for a lap in a run to second place.

Fahn Thomas leads the WEGTE class championship. The title continues to be challenged by Barrett Erickson, Jerry Chen, Mark Carty, Carl Middleton, Gilles Lalonde, Johnny Gutierrez, and Toni Talvitie. The Top 5 places are an open ring for 25 drivers in the running with three races remaining.

John Van Der Geest leads the WEP1 class championship in a tight campaign over Ken Jagger, separated by just a handful of grid positions. The title continues to be challenged by Gergely Kovács, Tobias Mueller, Joao Botelho De Sousa, Jose Pereira, Adolfo Onrubia, and Matt Geddes as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for nine drivers in the running with three races remaining.

Mike Erickson leads the WEP2 class championship in a tight campaign over Alex Freitas, separated by just a few grid spots. The title continues to be challenged by Ramon Llupart, Darien Bailey, Porfirio Dias Santos, Roger Hinds, Juan M Bento, Jorge Herrera, and David Buitrago as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for 11 drivers in the running with three races remaining.

Erickson drove the majority of 21 laps total leading Jorge Herrera after challenging and passing him on lap 8, coming from as many as three places back. Erickson passed Herrera and into second place on lap 8, and controlled it the remaining 53 laps to the finish.

Erickson remains in the lead of the WEP2 class standings, eight points ahead of Alex Freitas. Erickson has five starts and led 19 of his 266 laps while taking the victory once.

Barrett Erickson took second place in the WEGTE class.

Erickson swapped leads with Mark Carty in a lengthy and determined fight for second late in the action, running within car lengths of each other over a span of 58 laps. Driving the Ferrari 458 GTE, Erickson drove nearly all leading Carty after being engaged by him on the first lap. Erickson fended off a prolonged challenge by Carty in the beginning, staying just car lengths ahead of him over a solid run of 39 laps. After losing the spot on lap 40, Erickson passed Carty and into second place on lap 41, and kept it the remaining 17 laps to the checkered flag.

Erickson moves up to second in the WEGTE class standings, 19 points behind Fahn Thomas. Erickson has five starts and finished as high as second.

Ramon Llupart took third place in the WEP2 class.

Mark Carty won third place in the WEGTE class.

Llupart traded positions back and forth with Jorge Herrera in a lengthy and unrelenting fight for third from the beginning, running within a bumper of each other over a range of 56 laps. Llupart ran nearly equal parts leading Herrera after being engaged by him on the first lap. Driving the Lola B12/80, Llupart fended off an extended challenge by Herrera midway through, staying just a couple turns ahead of him over an unbroken run of 16 laps. After losing the spot on lap 54, Llupart cleared Herrera for the fifth time and into third place on lap 59, and kept it the remaining lap to the finish.

Llupart moves up to third in the WEP2 class standings, 25 points behind Alex Freitas. Llupart has three starts and finished as high as third.

Carty mixed it up with Barrett Erickson in a lengthy and determined battle for second in the late stages, running within car lengths of each other over a span of 58 laps. Driving the BMW Z4 GTE, Carty drove the majority pursuing Erickson after catching him on the first lap. Carty launched an extended challenge at Erickson in the beginning, staying within a turn behind him and keeping pace over a continuous run of 39 laps. Ultimately Carty settled into third the 18 laps running to the finish.

Carty moves up to fourth in the WEGTE class standings, seven points behind Jerry Chen. Carty has four starts and finished as high as third.

Jorge Herrera captured fourth place in the WEP2 class.

Tobias Mueller captured second place in the WEP1 class.

Driving the Acura ARX 03, Herrera traded positions multiple rounds with Ramon Llupart in a long and tense fight for fourth from the beginning, running within a scrape of each other over a stretch of 56 laps. Herrera drove nearly equal parts leading Llupart after catching and passing him on the fifth lap. In the end Herrera lost the spot on lap 59 and settled into fourth through attrition the couple laps running to the finish.

Herrera is eighth in the WEP2 class standings for the series. He has one start and finished as high as fourth.

Mueller traded positions multiple rounds with Ken Jagger in a prolonged fight for second from the beginning, wrangling over a stretch of 60 laps. Driving the Audi R18 E-TRON, Mueller drove nearly all leading Jagger after challenging and passing him on the fourth lap. After losing the spot on lap 33, Mueller got around Jagger for the second time and into second place on lap 38, and kept it the remaining 26 laps to the conclusion.

Mueller remains in fourth in the WEP1 class standings, cutting the gap to third's Gergely Kovács to two points. Mueller has four starts and led 45 of his 189 laps while taking the victory once.

Ken Jagger won third place in the WEP1 class.
