23 Dec 2016 — Rogier De Klein captured eighth place in the Eastern Creek BMW E21 in the fourth and final round of the Swift Sport BMW E21 Sayonara series.
De Klein traded positions with Marcos Nunez in a close battle for fourth from the middle stages, running within a car length of each other over a stretch of seven laps and changing positions two times. De Klein drove the majority leading Nunez after challenging and passing him on lap 12, coming from as many as 11 spots back. De Klein fended off a prolonged challenge by Nunez in the middle stages, staying just an apex ahead of him over a solid run of five laps. Ultimately De Klein lost the spot on lap 17 and settled into fifth the lap before retiring early due to dnf trouble.
De Klein finished the series 20th in the standings. He made one start and finished as high as eighth.
Swift Sport BMW E21 Sayonara series finished its season after four rounds spanning a little more than a week. A total of 40 drivers competed for points in the championship.
Javier Manzanares took the championship in a tight campaign over Ville Hartikainen, separated by just a couple grid spots in the end. Manzanares led 25 laps and took a single win in four races. Ville Hartikainen, Tommaso Pinter, Matias Perales, Mark Carty, Marcos Nunez, and Mike Dos Santos finished within a race of the title.
