24 Dec 2016 — Simon Wattman took third place in the Daytona International '70 S5000 LE in Round 2 of the One Last Hurrah series.
Wattman ran all of 21 laps total pursuing Alejo Perales after catching him on the first lap. Driving the Ford GT40 Mk1 LE, Wattman launched an extended challenge at Perales in the beginning, staying within a scuff behind him and keeping pace over an unbroken run of 21 laps. Ultimately Wattman settled into third the 15 laps running to the finish, missing Perales ahead by just 0.192 seconds at the line.
Wattman drops to second in the standings, one point behind Marcos Nunez. Wattman has two starts and led seven of his 37 laps while taking the win once.
One Last Hurrah series moves on to its third and final round in a week at Le Mans '70. The series has 16 drivers competing for points in the championship.
