Race report
Denver Grand Prix on Mar 21, 2010
Car: Champcar '98. Class: CART 98. Start: 3. Finish: 1. Laps: 67.

That was another great race here.

qualify was way off from what i expected but the conditions were strange, i made couple laps on conservative mode but when i finally went for it the track seemed very slippery and i ended up crashing

Right on start of the race i went for Jon's position, almost took it but Jon did a great job with the defense. After few laps Jon and i passed Jeff, then i was trying to catch Jon but he clearly had a better pace than mine, from that moment on until the second pitstop, i was doing what i could to lower the gap but wasn't working, i was following the XD telemetry and this track the engine was more used than on the last ones so i had to lower the boost sometimes just to be sure i would made it.

I made the 2nd stop the later i could, in that moment i knew that if i didn't changed anything on the car i wouldn't have a chance on battling with Jon, so i made a risky move, i put the soft tires (which i had never used before for a whole stint in this mod), hoped that i saved the engine enough trough the race and switched the boost to full power, and started driving like i was on a qualify, was taking the gap from Jon until he had problems, then i just took the car to the finish line with low boost and didn't pushing, so i still don't know how my tires would be in the end.

*For those that have doubts about how the boost works in this mod*

It's basically the same thing as on indy95, its a matter of strategy, but on this mod sometimes you have to be more careful with the engine's life. On indy95 you could use full power on boost and for sure it wouldn't blow. On this mod it will change from track to track.
For example, in long beach it was my first race so i was playing safe with the boost but then i realized it would't be necessary and on last stint i was driving with it on 5 and following the XD telemetry probably it would have handle the 5 trough the whole race. On Laguna Seca, i was starting safer again but i realized i was loosing gap, then after about 5-6 laps i switched to 5 and made it safely trough the whole race ended the race with more than 40% of the engine so could have use full power at all times.
Now on Denver, i already started with it on 5, but i realized it was consuming more than in other tracks, so i had to lower to 3 for some laps just to be sure, by my calculations during the race if i had used the boost 5 during all the last stint (what i had planned to do), i would end with 5%-10% of the engine.

So it's basically the same as indy95, gives more power, but uses more fuel, and it's a bit more interesting because in some tracks you can have problems with its longevity.

I recommend that everyone uses the XD for this mod, will be very useful.
ps: The % of the engine that it shows changes every time you go on track (unless it's specified on the mod that will start always with full life), so if you have luck you'll start with a engine with 99% of life, but you can be unlucky and start with less!
And this % doesn't have anything to do with engine performance, only lifetime.

Hope it helps
