Race report
Skoda: Croft #1 on Feb 28, 2010
Skoda Cup series at Croft
Car: Skoda Octavia. Class: Skoda. Start: 11. Finish: 6. Laps: 13.

Every now and then, there comes a time in this sport/hobby/pursuit as happens in many others, that reminds us why we're doing this. For me, this was one of those days. As any member of my team can attest, I don't enjoy the best luck in the world but it looks like I caught Murphy looking the other way for a change.

First, congrats to Matt, Luiz and Ihab on a fine race and podium. Thanks to Sam and Rogier for racing me hard and the few lessons I'll take from this race.

I didn't qualify as well as I'd run in practice and was gridded 11th. The start was ok, and from my position on forward it looked ok thru the first few corners, at least from my point of view. I waited for traffic to settle down to see how the field would pan out. And then I found myself running with Rogier, Sam and up ahead, Barney. It is not often I get to run in company like this but I was determined to stay with them. I got around Rogier in the hairpin, though I've no idea how! Traffic, I guess. Then, he wasn't there! I was disappointed since I was having fun. Then I caught up to Sam (ok, ok, I think he was hampered due to the weight penalty) and we ran in that order to the end. Great fun Sam, thanks for the lesson.

The second race didn't go so well. I lost a few spots going thru the first few turns and then I tapped Tomas (I think it was Tomas) in the hairpin. Silly mistake really. He was a little wide going in, I was about 2 lengths back and had no plans to pass there. I thought he'd hold that line all the way thru but he tightened it up a bit and I couldn't slow in time. My bad, I'm responsible for the space in front and I didn't allow for that. So, I did a drive thru and set about catching those at the back of the field. I made up a few spots, but those guys didn't make it easy, nor should they have. Fun battles guys, even the drag race Simon and I had to the checkered (and Sam and I in race 1 for that matter), great fun. On to the next!!
