Race report
2.4 Hours of Sebring on Mar 20, 2010
Car: Spyker C8. Class: GT2. Start: 3. Finish: 7. Laps: 65.

Congratulations to the class winners, the podium finishers and all who managed to complete the event. Also to Todd and Tim and R2P for hosting this event...it was great to be a part of it.

RACE

I was really confident of a podium finish for this event. I spent many hours practising with the lads and I was sure if myself, my strategy and my race set.

Bad luck struck, right at the start when I joined the grid to find I had no FFB. I hit the reset FFB button and...nothing happened....so I was knew right then and there I would have a tough time ahead of me.I managed to get a reasonable handle on the car but was more than a second off my practice pace...I just was not comfortable going into to and coming out the corners....There was just no telling what the car was doing.

Phil Perkin´s was even more unfortunate, in that he suffered a disco...I feel really gutted for him as we spent many hours together strategising and practising in the weeks leading up to the race.

I started off carefully trying to pace Sam, but really had no feel in the car. This lead to many little mistakes, costing me time throughout the race.

I got into a battle with Chris Melton at the start, but backed off when we touched into the last turn....around 20 mins into the race. I thought I would follow him and try to come to grips with the car with no FFB before making another attempt. We changed positions a number of times in the race and it was really exciting to be able to mix it up with Chris....Thanks for the racing Chris.

Through the whole race I was only taken off by a P2 car once...where I was quite surprised as the driver is known to be a fair, considerate competitor...maybe it was a lapse in concentration...From this point I carried heavy damage. now I had to deal with no FFB and a car that was not handling well. I made an error coming down the start / finish straight, towards the end of the race. I lost one position and had Mark Carty and Les Lamont right on my tail. I had a great dice with Mark and Les, who both overtook me in the last 10 minutes...well done Lads.

All in all the race was a great spectacle, where I am very happy to have accomplished my primary goal, to finish. I look forward to the next special event and to Next year´s Sebring 2.4 hour race. Thanks for the racing guys...it was major fun.
